After School Study Program – Meet the tutors

23 May 2025

John Paul College's After School Study Program runs during term time, four days a week – Monday to Thursday, from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. Based in the Resource Centre, the program offers students the opportunity to study individually or in small to larger groups.

The success of our After School Study Program relies on the professionalism and expertise of our past students, who have taken up regular part-time roles as weekly tutors. This year, we are proud to have 17 tutors on board – 10 from the 2024 school year and 7 from previous years. They are employed as JPC staff members, usually working two hours per week, providing valuable support to students in Years 7 to 12 with their studies and organisational skills.

We would like to take a moment to farewell one of our long-standing tutors, Amelia Plese, who is leaving us after 3 ½ years of service. Amelia, who has been an integral part of the program, is completing her final year of her Primary Teaching degree and will focus on her studies and placements. A big thank you to Amelia for her dedication to John Paul College, and we wish her all the best for her future teaching career.

Meet some of our 2025 tutors:

I am currently in my 4th and final year of my Bachelor of Primary Education. I absolutely love working in schools and helping to make a difference in any way possible."

Amelia Plese – Years at JPC: 2016–2021

I took a gap year after graduating from JPC to work and travel and am now a first-year student in Bachelor of Laws at Australian Catholic University, since Legal studies was my favourite subject at JPC. My favourite thing about being a Tutor is helping students feel more confident in their learning and their own abilities.

Somer Randall – Years at JPC: 2018–2023

At John Paul College, I loved studying Legal Studies, English, and History. I am currently in the third year of my degree, studying a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at Monash University. I love tutoring at the After School Study Program because it gives me the opportunity to form meaningful connections with the students and motivate them to be the best students they could be.

Gemma Sperandio – Years at JPC: 2017–2022

I am currently a second-year student studying Project Management at RMIT University. I love travelling and anything outdoors – hiking, camping, bike riding etc. My favourite subjects in high school were Business Management and Health and Human Development. I like being a Tutor because I love being able to pass on my tips and tricks that I learned in high school, especially about organisation.

Jessica Vajdic – Years at JPC: 2018–2023
