The Year 8 Retreat, themed Pilgrims of Hope, gave students a chance to pause from their usual school routine and engage in activities that encouraged connection, creativity, and community. Through a range of experiences, students developed trust, communication, and collaboration skills while strengthening relationships with peers and teachers.
Students embraced opportunities to express kindness and positivity.
A standout moment for me was when we made bracelets and origami creations for the elderly ladies at Sky Lodge. Working together as a group, I felt both peaceful and excited. This made me realise how supporting our community or a small act of kindness can brighten someone’s day.
The Retreat also allowed students to reflect on their values and build connections with their peers.
One of my favourite parts of the Year 8 Retreat was the affirmations we made. Reading some of those notes made me feel better and that there are so many nice people out there. The affirmations gave a chance to build connections and build community in such a positive way.
For many, the retreat was a chance to connect beyond their usual friendship groups.
A memorable moment that I enjoyed was making affirmations to my fellow peers, as it gave me a space to tell my friends positive things that can put a smile on their faces. I’m delighted to know that I get to experience these types of moments again further into my school years.
Beyond the fun and creativity, the Year 8 Retreat encouraged students to reflect, collaborate, and appreciate the impact of small acts of kindness. We hope these lessons will continue to guide them throughout their school journey.
