Last week, we celebrated Science Week with a burst of energy and discovery! Lunchtimes came alive with hands-on science, from eye-catching chemical reaction demonstrations to students building their own batteries, with stamps collected for the Science Week Passport. The week also featured themed bell music, daily trivia and puzzles, bite-sized science news, and a photography competition capturing the wonder of science.
It was also the perfect time to shine a spotlight on our students’ STEM achievements. Year 10 Psychology students Kesean G and Zachary G proudly represented the College in Round 2 of the Australian Brain Bee Challenge at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health. The day included challenging neuroscience exams, creative group project showcases, and guided tours through cutting-edge research labs, the DAX Gallery, and the rarely open Anatomy Museum. They explored preserved anatomical specimens, learned about Parkinson’s disease and brain function, and discovered innovations such as using brain waves to control technology. Both students found the experience inspiring and encouraged future students to take on the challenge in 2026.
We also celebrated the achievements of our Junior Science Olympiad participants, part of a national competition designed to challenge and inspire young science enthusiasts. Special recognition goes to Year 8 student Denzel O who achieved a High Distinction, placing in the top 10% nationwide, and to Emily S, who earned a Credit, placing in the next 30%. Covering topics in Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, and Physics, the Olympiad rewards curiosity, determination, and advanced scientific thinking.
Congratulations also to the Science Week activity winners:
