Eric Agyeman inspires students through resilience and reflection

20 May 2025

Years 7, 8 and 9 students recently took part in an inspiring presentation by Eric Agyeman as part of the HORIZONS Pastoral Program, which focuses on Responsibility, Respect, Relationships and Reflection.

Eric shared his inspiring story of resilience and transformation from a teen gang member to African Australian of the Year. He spoke about overcoming mental health challenges and low self-esteem, and how young people can build self-worth, set meaningful goals, and create a positive path forward.

Eric Agyeman’s story of overcoming challenges reminded me that resilience isn’t about avoiding failure, but about learning from it and growing stronger. His journey has inspired me to stay determined and never give up, even when things get tough.”

The presentation also explored the power of words to counter bullying and foster kindness. Eric encouraged students to see failure not as a personal flaw but as a moment to grow, and to reflect on how resilience can shape the legacy they leave in the world.

What I took away from Eric's presentation was, when he got us all to look at one another in the eyes and asked us to repeat after him, he began saying words like "you are beautiful" and" you are smart", he told us that positive words makes a positive mindset and doing that once a day, to a few friends can put a smile on their face and make their day better.”

The College thanks Eric Agyeman for delivering such a meaningful and engaging session. His message of resilience, kindness and self-belief left a lasting impression and will continue to empower students to make positive choices in their lives and communities.
