Year 9 students explore the city through MUSE

17 June 2025

Year 9 students recently embraced the Melbourne Urban Student Experience (MUSE), an immersive week of hands-on learning set in the heart of the city.

In small teams, students navigated Melbourne’s CBD as part of the City Search Quest, answering questions and capturing photos at key landmarks. Alongside this, they explored a self-selected hypothesis through a research project. Topics included: “The city is wheelchair and pram friendly,” “Melbourne celebrates Aboriginal culture,” “There’s entertainment for all ages,” and “You can have a great day out in Melbourne without spending a cent.”

To investigate their ideas, students conducted fieldwork by observing, interviewing, collecting data and taking photos. Daily reflections helped consolidate their experiences, leading up to a final group presentation of their findings.

MUSE fosters valuable skills in collaboration, communication, critical thinking and time management, while encouraging students to connect with Melbourne’s people, culture and environment in meaningful and memorable ways.
