Future Focus for Year 11 and 12

17 February 2026

Our senior students recently had the opportunity to gain valuable insight into life beyond school through two engaging and inspiring careers-focused sessions.

Year 11 students heard from three diverse guest speakers who shared honest reflections on their professional journeys. Lucy O’Rourke, a paramedic and graduate of Monash University (Frankston campus), spoke about her pathway into paramedicine and what the role is really like on the ground. Senior Constable James Richardson, Youth Resource Officer from the Proactive Policing Unit in Somerville, provided an inside look at policing, community engagement and making a positive difference in the community. Lachie Gill, JPC Class of 2015 and winner of The Voice Australia, reflected on his journey from school to building a career in music.

Each speaker addressed the pathways they took after Year 12, the key decisions and unexpected detours along the way, the realities of their day-to-day work, and the skills that matter most in their fields. They also shared what they wish they had known in Year 11, encouraging students to stay open to opportunity, ask questions and back themselves as they plan for the future.

Year 12 students also benefited from a dedicated Alumni Q&A session with Asher J (Class of 2024) and Monet R (Class of 2021). Asher, who achieved an outstanding ATAR of 99.65, is now studying a double degree in Engineering and Science at Monash University. A passionate contributor to the Arts and Faith life of the College, he also volunteers as a Youth Camp leader and Disability Support Worker. Monet completed her VCE during the height of the COVID pandemic and has since earned a Bachelor of Biomedicine, alongside training with the Army Reserves. With six months of travel planned for 2026, she is embracing global experiences before pursuing further study in Medicine.

Together, our guest speakers and alumni offered practical advice, honest reflections and reassurance that career pathways are rarely linear. These sessions provided meaningful guidance and inspiration as our students consider the many possibilities that lie ahead.
