As we draw towards the end of the 2025 academic year, it's appropriate to reflect on the achievements and growth of our John Paul College community. This year has been marked by resilience, collaboration, and a shared commitment to excellence in all areas of College life. Together, we have navigated challenges and celebrated successes that affirm the strength of our mission and values as a Catholic school in the Marianist and FCJ traditions.
Our students have excelled across academic, cultural, sporting, and spiritual domains. From outstanding academic results and individual academic growth to remarkable performances in the arts and spirited participation in co-curricular activities, our students have met the challenges and shown their commitment to being the best they can be. These successes are not only a testament to the hard work of our students but also to the dedication and care of our staff who guide and support them. At John Paul College, we understand that education is holistic, and this year has demonstrated that when we focus on student growth in its entirety: mind, body, and spirit, extraordinary outcomes follow.
As we enter the sacred season of Advent, we are reminded of its profound significance for Catholics worldwide. Advent is a time of joyful anticipation, a season that calls us to prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. It invites us to pause amidst the busyness, to reflect on hope, peace, joy, and love - the four virtues symbolised by the Advent candles. In a world often marked by uncertainty, Advent reassures us that light will overcome darkness and that God’s promise of salvation is near.
It is important to remember, especially at this time of the year, when it is filled with a hectic rush for the material things of this world, that Advent is not merely a countdown to Christmas but a call to renewal, a time to embrace our identity as people of faith and to live with purpose and compassion. I hope and pray that each of us make some time in the busy period leading into Christmas to reflect and recommit to love, hope, joy and peace in our hearts and our communities.
As we celebrate the close of this academic year, let us always remember the path that helped us reach these achievements. Often it is easy to rejoice in the accomplishments and not acknowledge the hard work and focus that has led to these outcomes. Congratulations to all who have given their best, especially when others may not have noted the achievement. May the spirit of this season also inspire us to enter the new year ahead with hope and determination, continuing to build a community where every individual is valued and encouraged to flourish.
On behalf of the College leadership team, I extend heartfelt thanks to our students, staff, and families for your commitment and partnership throughout 2025. May this Advent season bring peace to your homes and joy to your hearts, and may the coming year be filled with blessings.
I can think of no better way of expressing a greeting for this time of the year than the words of Pope Leo XIV that he spoke when starting his ministry as leader of the Catholic Church:
"Peace be with all of you!
Dearest brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the Risen Christ, the good shepherd who gave his life for God's flock. I too would like this greeting of peace to enter your heart, to reach your families, to all people, wherever they are, to all peoples, to the whole earth. Peace be with you!
