Living our Faith through Servant Leadership

23 October 2025

John Paul College staff recently came together for a Staff Spirituality Day centred on the theme Servant Leadership and Service.

The day began with an inspiring keynote presentation by Edwin Bakker, Faith Formation Manager at MACS, who reminded staff that “service is the only way to good leadership.” He invited everyone to reflect on how authentic leadership begins with humility, compassion and faith, and how leading with hope and heart helps students to flourish.

Staff then lived out this message through a series of Faith in Action activities supporting local community organisations, including Blessings Bags, the Dolphin Research Institute, Mums Supporting Families In Need (MSFIN), NICU Cheer, the Community Companion Van and 1000 Hearts. Activities ranged from cooking meals and creating care packages to sewing items for premature babies and assisting local environmental initiatives.

The day concluded with a time of reflection and gratitude, reinforcing that our mission as a Catholic community is not only to teach about service but to actively live it.

Servant leadership reminds us that faith in action begins with small acts of kindness, generosity and compassion - gestures that strengthen our community and bring our shared mission to life.
