JPC sport roundup – Term highlights so far

13 May 2025

It’s been a big few weeks in sport at JPC! From making waves at the SIS Division A Swimming Carnival to outstanding results at the School Aerobics Regional Qualifiers and the All Schools Cross Country Relay Championships, our students have showcased talent, teamwork and determination across a range of events.

SIS Division A Swimming Carnival
Earlier this term, 50 John Paul College students competed in the SIS Division A Swimming Carnival at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. Backing up after the House Athletics Carnival the day before, the team delivered a strong and determined performance across both individual and relay events, showing great teamwork and support throughout the day.

JPC finished 7th overall – a fantastic result – with a standout moment being the senior girls relay team of Thalia S, Alicia B, Ysabelle V and Emily E, who set a new SIS record in their event.

Thalia S and Ysabelle V (both Year 10) were subsequently selected to represent Team SIS at the VSAC Swimming Carnival, recognised for their outstanding efforts at the SIS Carnival.

A special thank you goes to our Year 12 swimmers – Josh, Emily, Jai, Kirill, Tahlia, Niña and Luca – who proudly represented the College for the final time at SIS swimming.

School Aerobics
On Saturday 3 May, 27 JPC students competed in the Regional Qualifiers for School Aerobics, representing the College across three teams and two duos. We are thrilled to announce that every team and duo has qualified for the upcoming State Finals!

Congratulations to all involved, and thank you to coaches Tayla W and Ms Fortnam, as well as Miss Keenan, Ms Essing and Ms Riddiford for their support on the day.

Victorian All Schools Cross Country Relay Championships
Sixteen dedicated John Paul College students braved the wet and cold conditions at the Victorian All Schools Cross Country Relay Championships held at Jells Park on Saturday 17 May. Each athlete tackled a challenging 3km course- complete with the notorious lakeside hill - as part of a four-person relay team.

  • Mikayla, Drew, Mia and Hadley competed in the Under 14 Girls race, placing 11th overall.
  • Clara, Alessandra, Scarlett and Lily took on the Under 16 Girls race, finishing 13th.
  • Daly, Asher, Andre and Beau ran in the Under 14 Boys race, securing 7th place.
  • Cooper, Marshall, Ethan and Aidan competed in the Under 18 Boys race, placing 15th.

Congratulations to all students for their determination and team spirit. A special mention to Cooper and Ethan, who ran up an age group and competed strongly against older athletes.

Thank you to the parents and staff who supported our students throughout the event.

SIS Cross Country

A squad of 56 students proudly represented John Paul College at the SIS Cross Country held at Casey Fields on Tuesday 27th May. The event began under clear skies and sunshine, but true cross country weather soon took over, bringing persistent rain and strong winds.

Each student completed a challenging 3km course, finishing inside the athletics track in front of all schools participating. Despite the tough conditions, our students demonstrated great determination and school spirit throughout the day.

A special congratulations goes to Lily L (Year 9), who achieved 1st place in overall for the 15-year-old girls category, finishing with an impressive time of 10:58.

Well done to all students who braved the elements and represented the College with pride.
