The After School Study Program has been a hive of activity throughout 2026, providing students with a quiet, supportive environment to complete homework, prepare for assessments and access additional academic support.
From February to August, 295 individual students from Years 7–12 have participated in the program, with a cumulative 2,509 attendances recorded. Year 11 students have been the highest users of the program, with 65 individual students recording 717 attendances, while strong participation has also been seen across Years 7–10.
Students can attend the program on a daily, weekly or casual basis. Each afternoon, students sign in on arrival before settling into study and homework tasks, with Academic Tutors available to provide assistance. Snacks and drinks are also provided.
This year’s Academic Tutors are Nina Gallego and Elliot Staton on Mondays, Arielle Denyer and Nick Meijer on Tuesdays, Asher Johnston and Tristan Dimalanta on Wednesdays, and Jessica Vadjic and Dylan Telyszak on Thursdays. Tutors can support students with general classwork across Years 7–10, as well as providing assistance in their VCE areas of expertise.
Student feedback highlights the many ways the program supports students beyond simply completing homework. Year 7 student Millah C described the library as “peaceful” and “calming”, while Year 11 student Oliver W appreciated having “a quiet place to study for upcoming assignments” while also being able to collaborate with peers.
For many students, the program also provides a productive space to work without the distractions they may experience at home. Year 10 student Thomas A said it gives him “a quiet space to study, work on what subject I’m behind in and keep focus rather than being at home.”
For others, the program offers valuable access to support when they need it. Year 10 student Mariah D said there are “helpful people that can teach me things that my teachers don't have time for”, while Year 10 student Steven E valued having access to Tutors and the library after school.
The program has also become an important part of students’ afternoon routines, providing a safe and welcoming place to study, connect with friends and wait for parents or carers.
With strong participation continuing across all year levels, the After School Study Program remains an important resource for students looking to make the most of their time after school.
