Year 11 Retreat Day: Stepping In, Stepping Up

12 August 2026

This week, our Year 11 students stepped away from the busyness of everyday school life to participate in a Retreat Day centred on the theme “Stepping In, Stepping Up.” The carefully crafted program provided students with an opportunity to pause, reflect and consider the kind of people they are becoming, both now and into the future.

Throughout the day, students explored what it means to flourish as individuals and as members of a community. They were encouraged to recognise their unique gifts and talents, take ownership of their learning and relationships, and reflect on how their choices shape both their character and their influence on others.

A key message of the retreat was that each person is a leader in their own way. Whether through friendships, family relationships, the workplace, sporting teams, co-curricular activities or formal leadership roles, every student has the capacity to positively influence those around them. Drawing on the example of Jesus, students reflected on leadership as service, courage, integrity and the willingness to use one's gifts for the good of others.

Students were also invited to consider the “lens” through which they view themselves, their opportunities and their future. As a Catholic community, we believe that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and possesses inherent dignity, value and potential.

“What might become possible if I started seeing myself, my opportunities and my future through a lens of possibility rather than limitation?”

As students begin looking ahead to their final year of schooling, the retreat served as an important reminder that leadership is not defined by a badge or title, but by the everyday choices we make to help others flourish.
