E-bike Safety Information for Families

30 July 2026

With the increasing popularity of e-bikes and e-scooters among young people, we are sharing some important safety information with our families.

Carrum Downs Police have alerted local schools to a rise in e-bike and e-scooter incidents involving school-aged children, with many injuries linked to unsafe riding practices, a lack of protective equipment and the use of illegal or modified bikes.

To help families better understand the current Victorian regulations and safety requirements, we have attached two important resources to this newsletter:

  • E-bikes Letter from Carrum Downs Police, outlining key safety concerns, legal requirements and advice for parents.
  • What is a Legal E-bike in Victoria?, a guide explaining which types of e-bikes are compliant with Victorian law and which are not.

We encourage all parents and carers to read these resources and discuss safe riding practices with their children. Working together to ensure students understand the rules and ride responsibly can help reduce the risk of serious injury.
