Child Safe Standards Newsletter Series

John Paul College is committed to ensuring every student feels safe, valued and supported. The College upholds the Victorian Child Safe Standards, designed to prevent abuse, promote wellbeing, and create safe environments for young people.

In 2026, the College will share MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools) CARE newsletter updates to help families understand how these standards are embedded in our policies, practices and culture. This first edition highlights Child Safe Standard 1, which focuses on creating culturally safe environments that respect and value the diverse identities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

As a MACS school, John Paul College nurtures respectful communities where every young person’s dignity is celebrated, reflecting the Gospel message: “I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10).

Creating culturally safe environments includes:

• Celebrating Aboriginal culture through events like NAIDOC Week and classroom learning.
• Taking a clear stance against racism and responding quickly to concerns.
• Engaging Aboriginal families and communities to ensure inclusivity.
• Supporting ongoing staff learning to strengthen cultural safety.

Families are encouraged to stay informed about policies and support their children in sharing their thoughts and experiences, helping John Paul College remain a safe and welcoming place for all.
