Fundraising in Support of 'He Cares' Mission

09 February 2026

In 2025, a group of staff and students had the privilege of visiting the ‘He Cares’ Mission in Manila during the Philippines Immersion trip with Catholic Mission. While there, they stayed with Brother Joe, his wife Ardis and their family, witnessing first hand the extraordinary generosity and faith that underpin their work.

Each Saturday, ‘He Cares’ Mission runs a feeding program for around 300 street children. For many of these young people, the meal they receive is the only food they have had in days. Beyond nourishment, the program offers care, connection and a sense of dignity and belonging.

Deeply moved by the experience, members of the College community were eager to support the mission on their return. Two donut fundraisers were coordinated, raising $733.86 AUD. This contribution covered the cost of an entire feeding program, with additional funds supporting other initiatives such as study sponsorship. It was a powerful example of how a small act of generosity within our community can make a meaningful difference across the world.

As we look ahead to 2026, our commitment continues.

In November 2025, Typhoon Tino triggered a devastating landslide near Bacolod City, leaving thousands of families homeless. Brother Joe Dean and the He Cares team have been providing emergency food, essential supplies and ongoing emotional and spiritual support to those affected. The mission is now working with local government to secure land and build a village that will provide homes for 200 families.

To support this recovery effort, several fundraising initiatives are planned across the year. In Term 1, Zooper Dooper stalls will be running with the support of generous sponsorship and donations from family and friends. With more than 1300 Zooper Doopers sourced, the initiative has been designed to maximise funds raised while encouraging strong student involvement. The first stall raised $301, with additional fundraising opportunities continuing throughout the term.

These efforts reflect more than fundraising. They represent solidarity, compassion and a shared belief in the dignity of every person. As a College community, we are proud to stand alongside He Cares Mission and look forward to continuing this partnership throughout 2026.
