The Year 7 Activity Program is designed to provide students with opportunities to have fun, develop new skills, and build strong relationships through shared experiences with peers and staff. With a clear focus on strengthening social connections, the program encourages students to step outside their usual friendship groups and grow in confidence as they settle into secondary school life.
The program began with an action-packed day at Gumbuya World. From the excitement of rollercoasters to the twists and turns of the waterslides, students embraced every opportunity for adventure.
My favourite activity was Gumbuya World because I got to make heaps of new friends and have a blast. I loved the lazy river and the giant slides. A fun memory I have is when my friend group and I were on the TNT rollercoaster - we were all laughing our heads off. At Gumbuya World, I learned to be more confident and join in. I felt connected to the Year 7 classes because they were including me and my friends.
Time spent floating along the lazy river offered a chance to relax, chat, and enjoy time with new friends, while the variety of attractions ensured there was something for everyone.
My favourite activity was Gumbuya World. I especially loved going on the lazy river with my friends.
Students also took the opportunity to challenge themselves, stepping beyond their comfort zones and supporting one another throughout the day.
My favourite experience was Gumbuya World. I got to face my fears of water slides, heights and rollercoasters, and the best thing was doing it with my friends and the new friends I made. I went out of my comfort zone, and it was the best thing I did. If I didn’t, I would have missed out on the thrill of the rides. Make sure to face your fears and have fun!
Beyond the rides, memorable moments were created through shared experiences and simple joys.
My favourite activity was Gumbuya World because there was lots to do, with heaps of water slides, rollercoasters and animals. One of my favourites was getting a photo with my best friend in the kangaroos’ enclosure - it was such a fun moment. I made lots of new friends and talked to people I’d never met before. Activities Week was so good because we had fun and met more people than we would at school.
Round two took students to Melbourne Cable Park, where teamwork and resilience were on full display. The high ropes course challenged students to demonstrate courage and determination as they navigated obstacles above the ground. Mini golf brought out friendly competition, while the inflatable obstacle course tested balance, agility, and perseverance.
My favourite activity had to be going to Cable Park. I enjoyed the way things were run, and I loved how we had time in between to eat and catch up with friends from other classes. Doing these activities helped me expand my friend group and meet new people!
The program concluded with an unforgettable day at Luna Park Melbourne. Students enjoyed a mix of heritage-listed attractions and thrilling rides, including the historic wooden roller coaster - the oldest continually operating wooden coaster in the world. The day provided further opportunities to talk, laugh, and try something new together.
Going to Luna Park with my friends was so much fun because we challenged ourselves to try new rides, even the scary roller coasters. We were nervous at first but ended up laughing so much and felt really proud for being brave together.
Luna Park was so much fun - all the rides, spending time with friends, and just going there in general.
Across the three adventures, the Year 7 Activity Program fostered a strong sense of belonging and connection within the cohort. Through shared experiences, teamwork, and plenty of laughter, students strengthened friendships, built confidence, and continued to establish positive relationships that will support them throughout their secondary school journey.
