Walking in Solidarity for Project Compassion

26 March 2026

The College community recently came together for the 2026 Project Compassion Walk-a-thon, walking in solidarity with communities around the world - and in doing so, raised an outstanding $13,650, surpassing the initial goal of $12,000.

As a Catholic community, this initiative was more than a fundraiser. It was a powerful expression of compassion, justice, and solidarity, particularly with those most vulnerable. Throughout Lent, students and staff put their faith into action in support of Caritas Australia, uniting to create meaningful and lasting change.

Guided by their House charisms, each House championed powerful stories of resilience, hope and opportunity. In the lead-up to the walk-a-thon, students shared the stories of individuals and communities they were supporting, highlighting the real impact of Project Compassion.

Turner House, guided by their charism of Community, walked in solidarity with Monoranjon in Bangladesh. Living in a coastal village affected by frequent flooding and storms, he has been supported through climate-resilient farming techniques and new income opportunities, helping his family build a safer and more sustainable future.

Living out their charism of Perseverance, Chaminade House stood with Ahmad and the work of Caritas Jerusalem in Gaza. Despite ongoing conflict, displacement and personal loss, staff continue to provide essential food, medical supplies and humanitarian care to families in urgent need.

Inspired by their charism of Courage, D’Houet House supported Sisilia in Tanzania. Access to clean, safe water has transformed her daily life, allowing more time for education and opening up new opportunities for her future.

Embracing their charism of Generosity, Olsen House walked alongside Manaini in Fiji. Through skills in sustainable living, including food processing and gardening, she has been able to improve her family’s wellbeing and create new opportunities to support her children’s education.

House Points

On the day, all students and staff took part by walking 2–3 laps of the College perimeter, while a dedicated group of 30 students and 2 staff members took on the additional challenge of running laps of a 1km internal track. Several standout performances were recorded, including:

  • Ethan G (Year 9, Olsen House), who completed 11km in 46:29
  • Marshall D (Year 12, Turner House), who ran 10km in 42:10, and
  • Sebastian K (Year 9, D’Houet House), who also reached 10km in 46:00.

In addition to fundraising, the Walk-a-thon contributed to House points, with students earning 1 point for walking and 10 points for running. Following strong participation across all Houses, the final results were:

  • 1st place - D’Houet House: 393 points
  • 2nd place - Chaminade House: 293 points
  • 3rd place - Turner House: 251 points
  • 4th place - Olsen House: 242 points

The fundraising efforts across the College were equally impressive. Senior Chaminade raised the highest collective amount with $2,289, while individual contributions were led by:

  • Nathanial F (Year 10, D’Houet House) with $537
  • Maddox H (Year 7, Chaminade House) with $466, and
  • Molly P (Year 12, Olsen House) with $376.

From learning these powerful stories to taking meaningful steps together, the College community has truly been “moved to compassion.” The funds raised will help bring hope, dignity, and opportunity to communities around the world.

The College extends its sincere thanks to the entire JPC community for their generosity, spirit, and commitment to building a more just world. Together, this is impact in action.
