Year 11 student Bailey G’s gymnastics season continues to reach new heights, with a string of impressive results at state and national level earning him selection for an exciting international development opportunity later this year. After a busy start to the year competing in four competitions in the lead-up to the Victorian State Team Trials, Bailey competed at the Senior Victorian Gymnastics Championships despite a challenging preparation. Having broken his finger just five weeks earlier, Bailey significantly reduced his training hours and competed in just three apparatus.
His determination paid off, with Bailey crowned Victorian Champion on Pommel Horse, while also claiming bronze medals on Floor and Vault.
Bailey then represented Victoria at the Australian Gymnastics Championships in Sydney, competing in the Level 9 Open category against 29 gymnasts from across Australia and New Zealand. He delivered an outstanding performance, winning gold on Pommel Horse to become Australian Pommel Horse Champion, silver on Floor and bronze for third place All Around. Team Victoria also secured a silver medal.
Bailey’s exceptional Nationals results have earned him another exciting opportunity, with selection for an international gymnastics tour to China and Hong Kong in December. As one of the top 15 Level 9 and 10 All Around gymnasts from Nationals, Bailey will compete in an international competition, attend a high-performance training camp and train alongside leading coaches and athletes from the region. The tour will also include cultural, educational and team-building experiences.
Adding to his development opportunities, Bailey will travel to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in October for a three-to-four-day training camp with the Victorian Development Squad, working alongside some of Australia’s leading gymnastics coaches.
It has already been an incredible year for Bailey, and his results, resilience and commitment continue to showcase the dedication required to compete at the highest level. We look forward to following his journey as he takes on these exciting opportunities.
