Term 3 Begins with Celebration and Community

15 July 2026

Students and staff gathered for the first whole-school assembly of Semester Two, marking the beginning of Term Three with a celebration of student achievement, leadership and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Led by College Captains Aidan T and Alisha H, the assembly welcomed the College community back from the holiday break and encouraged everyone to embrace the new semester with purpose, courage and generosity.

The morning began with an Acknowledgement of Country and a prayer reflecting on the College motto. Inspired by the example of Venerable Marie Madeleine d'Houët, students were invited to reflect on what it means to live a full life by being present, showing respect, striving to do their best and lifting others up each day.

Principal Mr John Visentin welcomed the College community to Semester Two, encouraging students to embrace the opportunities ahead as they continue to grow in their learning, relationships and service to others.

Student achievement was recognised across a range of areas, with Time & Space Awards, Sporting Awards, ANZAC Awards and Commendation Awards presented to students who have demonstrated excellence, leadership, service and commitment to College life.

Heads of Students Mr Peter Molan and Mrs Vanessa Johnston challenged students to begin the semester with positive routines, strong attendance and a commitment to making the most of every learning opportunity. They emphasised that consistent effort, active participation and a willingness to challenge themselves are key ingredients for a successful semester.

The College Portfolio Captains reflected on their leadership experiences throughout Semester One while sharing their aspirations for the months ahead. Faith Captain Fina A spoke about building an inclusive faith community through youth group, prayer and liturgical celebrations. Academic Captain Ellisia R reflected on supporting students through Wednesday Maths Help sessions and fostering confidence in learning. Arts Captain Miranda M celebrated a successful first semester for the Arts, including the College's Production of The Addams Family Musical, Arts Clubs and the inaugural Arts Tour to Los Angeles and New York. Sport Captain Cooper R highlighted the importance of House spirit, teamwork and participation across the College's sporting program.

The College Captains concluded the assembly by encouraging every student to embrace the values of courage, perseverance, generosity and community throughout Semester Two. They reminded students that leadership is not defined by a title, but by the everyday actions that support, include and inspire others.

Students also received a preview of the exciting events and opportunities planned for Term Three, setting a positive tone for the semester ahead.

As students begin the new term, they do so with a simple challenge that echoed throughout the morning:

Be present.
Be respectful.
Give your best.
Lift others up.

These guiding words will shape the weeks ahead, providing a strong foundation for a semester of learning, leadership and belonging as the John Paul College community continues to grow together.
