Choosing subjects is about more than selecting classes for next year - it's about discovering interests, exploring future pathways and making informed decisions with confidence.
In Week 1 of this Term, students and families gathered for our annual Subject Preferences & Careers Expo, designed to support students as they plan their learning journey for 2027.
The Expo brought together learning area displays, universities, TAFEs, registered training organisations, employers and industry representatives, giving students the opportunity to explore a wide range of study and career pathways in one place. Representatives from fields including health, engineering, creative industries, education, aviation, trades, business, sport and emergency services were on hand to answer questions and share insights into future opportunities.
I learned that there were more pathways than just going straight to a university course, which helped me consider different opportunities. Talking to lots of different stalls and getting information booklets took away some of the stress about what I’ll do after Year 12 and gave me a clear plan for my studies.
Throughout the evening, families also attended presentations covering subject selection, career planning, mathematics pathways, and the different senior school options available through VCE, VM and VET. These sessions provided practical guidance to help students understand how today's subject choices can support tomorrow's goals.
The Expo reflected John Paul College's commitment to helping every student explore their strengths, understand the many pathways available to them and make informed decisions about their future with confidence.
