Being a teenager can be a lot to navigate. School, friendships, relationships, expectations and the process of figuring out who you are can all bring their own challenges.
Our Year 10 students recently took part in a dedicated Mental Health Day, providing an opportunity to explore some of these challenges while developing greater confidence, resilience and understanding of themselves and others.
Throughout the day, students participated in a range of tailored sessions with Speak & Share, Kinetic Connections and Man Cave. The sessions explored important topics including confidence, communication, mental health, resilience, identity and relationships.
Students were encouraged to engage in open and honest conversations, reflect on their own experiences and consider the ways they can support their wellbeing and the wellbeing of those around them. They also developed practical skills through activities including self-defence.
Very deep robust discussions in our house last night about this. Really valuable experience and session.
A key focus of the day was helping students recognise that seeking support is a strength. Knowing when to speak up, ask for help, listen to someone who may be struggling or simply check in with a friend can all make a meaningful difference.
The day provided students with practical strategies and opportunities for reflection, while reinforcing an important message: we don’t have to navigate the hard stuff alone.
By building confidence, resilience and stronger connections with others, students are better equipped to look after themselves and support those around them.
