Student Leadership

John Paul College has a very proud tradition of student leadership and valuing student voice within the decision making process.

The model of formalised leadership within the College promotes peer resilience and empowerment. Students are selected as leaders in a process which involves both staff and peers. John Paul College has student leaders at Year 9 and Year 12. The middle school tier of leadership comprises of two captains per House. At the senior school level, positions of leadership include two College Captains; College Vice Captain (who leads the Student Representative Council); Academic Leader; Arts Leader; Faith Leader and two House Captains for each of the four houses.

John Paul College places a focus on developing leadership skills and providing leadership opportunities to students across all year levels. To this end, John Paul College is very proud of its ability to develop all aspects of a young person’s leadership abilities which equip our students to be leaders in their lives after John Paul College. Formalised training for our elected leaders occurs over two days during the year, with other opportunities to attend Student Leadership Conferences and other skills development courses also offered.

Our Catholic heritage and tradition informs our model of leadership and is a lived experience present in our day to day lives at John Paul College. Particular emphasis is placed on the qualities of service and sacrifice within leadership as Jesus taught. We look to Jesus Christ and the founders of the College for inspiration as we work as leaders for the benefit of the entire community.

Peer Support Program

After undertaking training in the area of Peer Support, some Year 12 students volunteer to work with the Year 7 RE classes one period per cycle.

Peer Support is a structured program which aims to assist new Year 7 students with the transition to secondary schooling. The program also addresses issues facing young adolescents, e.g. peer pressure.
