Subject Selection and Careers Online Expo 2021

The College held a Subject Selection and Careers Online Expo last Thursday via Microsoft teams.

The Expo provided students and families with valuable information on a wide range of subjects the College offers. Subject teachers provided detailed overviews of the subject and answered any questions students had.

It was wonderful to see so many students and their families join the Expo. The College wishes to thank all staff who jumped online.

Students reflections on their experience attending the Expo

Personally, I thought the careers expo was really helpful, I attended multiple rooms for subjects such as biology, psychology, PE and outdoor Ed. I learnt about each subject and the course outline for all units from 1-4, it was good insight and the teachers were all helpful. It definitely helped me with my subject selection. The online structure was enjoyable and worked very well.

John Paul College’s career expo last week greatly helped me with my subject selection and gave me more insight of what subjects interest me most and will help me to succeed in VCE. I firstly attended the La Trobe University, Melbourne University and Deakin University rooms which gave me an idea of what university is like and what courses and other co-curricular aspects they offer at each different one. The guest speakers were very informative and inspired me in considering which university will best suit my future career aspirations and were great at answering any questions that people had.

I then attended the VCE Psychology, Outdoor Education, History and Italian rooms, which the teachers of each subject explained what the subject consists of, the topics covered in each unit and the possible career paths for each. They were also very enthusiastic in answering all questions that I had and explained each answer in detail, which made considering my subject options much easier.

The online careers expo was as easy as just opening a link to attend each room and was efficient in ensuring that you could visit every room that you wanted to. I learnt a lot about choosing my subjects to suit what I want to do in the future and motivated me to be excited about my learning and take full advantage of my subjects in order to succeed.
Chloe, Year 10
