Aim: The aim of the project is to use the resources, experience and current Science course work conducted in the curriculum to prepare a file of shared material from all partner schools. Staff can then share the benefit of work conducted at their partner schools in the area of Science.

Objectives: The objectives of the program include …

  • Developing an understanding of current science course work and curriculum conducted at other partner schools;
  • Developing closer ties with appropriate staff from other partner schools in similar topic development;
  • making the task of developing ideas for activities related to difficult concepts in Science easier by the shariing of expertise, experience and ideas;
  • Identification of future equipment needs on the topics to be developed.
  • The possibility of shared activities and programs that partner Primary classes and Secondary Science classes can work together in developing;
  • Developing Science assessment ideas and projects that combined partner schools and John Paul College can engage in.

Program Details: The program involves the preparation of current activities, concept maps, theme ideas or topics and then implementing it on the Middle Years Science Program website. Each primary staff member is to prepare 2 activities that have worked well in their class in any 3 of the areas of study: Biological Science, Chemical Science, Earth & Space and Physical Science.

Cost: With 135 Prirnary staff members (and our Secondary partners) preparing the 3 activities each, funding costs include the possibly employment of someone to complete the preparation of the internet page activities (close to 405 activities).

Instructions: Primary staff are to click on the link Classroom Activity Template . They can then save this file to a disk, work on it by filling in the information about 3 activities (from any 3 areas of study) and then email it back to me (barb@jpc.vic.edu.au). They will then be placed on the Science Mentor Program website for all Partner schools to use. The activity could be in one of the following forms ...

  • Factual information about a topic;
  • A concept map used for a Science theme;
  • A game or activity conducted in class related to Science that worked really well;
  • An experiment on one of the areas of study above;
  • A novel assessment idea, class management idea or project that has worked well related to Science.

An example of a typical activity is in the link Parachute Activity.
